Desperately hope the 7s returns, the attendance in Coventry was smashing in Birmingham, and it has a lot of the top competitors:

NZ, Australia, Fiji, and South Africa are all in the top circuit for men, complemented by Kenya, GB (Eng, Sco, Wal), and Canada before mentioning the likes of Samoa, Tonga, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong

Then in the women it's a similar story, but with Canada replacing South Africa at the top grouping.

It makes all the sense in the world, and the commonwealths takes place in a dead space in the rugby calendar too, so you can get some real value out of the tournament for promoting the game.

Sri Lanka's try vs the Kiwis, or Uganda drawing the Aussies were standout moments, plus the Aussie women beating the Black Ferns in what's always the best match going.
